I am amazed by Makarov’s ability to to drop color so well in a brief model study. I watched him painting in a video Alexey took last week, with the slow, thoughtful outline in black—Zen calligraphy.
Seeing the world through the eyes of a painter… Reminds me of another video on Henry Miller’s ideas on painting. I love Miller the writer, and I love that he painted when the writing began to hurt. He says some things in this video that I also stand by. Reflections on color—reasons to paint. He would have done much better with acrylics or oils. If these damn languages weren’t in the way, I could explain these things to Andrew. He would dig Miller too.
